I remember my first rescue. I was about ten or eleven years old, when a young lady showed up in the middle of a bunch of us kids playing in the park. I was one of them. She had a plastic bag in her hands with "something" in it. She asked one of the kids if he could watch her bag while she did some errands. Obviously, she never came back. When we finally decided to see what was inside the bag, we realized it was a very small puppy with its eyes still closed and no teeth at all. She was probably one or two days old. None of the kids wanted to take her home. I did, and she was a member of my family for twelve happy years. We named her "Mocosa."

Many years later when I was working as a licensed vet, I realized the huge number of animals in need. We started helping stray animals and that's how we met one local rescue group. They, in turn, introduced us to other rescue groups and that's how it all began.
