Fancy Cats Rescue Team is a passionate leader in the animal rescue community with over 20 years experience. Founded in August 1997 by Cathy Awad, Fancy Cats now has four PetSmart Adoption Centers and more than 70 volunteers.

Our mission is to end needless euthanasia at shelters in the National Capital area by rescuing and finding suitable lifetime homes for our cats, promote spaying and neutering and educate the public on responsible pet ownership.

On average, Fancy Cats helps over 1,000 cats each year. Since our inception in 1997, we have found loving homes for more than 11,000 cats.

We hold adoption events every weekend at the four local PetSmart locations. You can see the adoption event calendar and our gallery of adoptable kitties.

Our volunteers and staff are recognized for living our core values of integrity, respect, compassion and teamwork. They are responsive, dedicated, knowledgeable and helpful. Every year, our volunteers interact with over 7000 community members. Most of our volunteers have full-time jobs, and/or are students or retirees. They donate their non-working hours to help save homeless cats and kittens. Learn more about our people, or different ways of volunteering with Fancy Cats.
